March 2019

29/3/19. Afterwards it looks so much better well done Allan.
29/3/19. Steps getting cleaned out to keep up presentation levels.
25/3/19. Soiling up ,raking and laying the turf in front of range building.
12/3/19. Scarification of fairways all done and now its onto the Top dressing .150 ton of Uniform number 3 sand is going onto the fairways over the next few days. Main reason for this sand dressing is to keep surfaces playable . Sand will help with drainage ,reduce thatch levels and create a smoother turf surface.

27/3/19. Soil all raked and 400sqmts of turf laid . Wooden edge put in , liner down and nice grey stones barrowed in. all this range needs now is golfers :-).

14/3/19. Grass tee area to the right of the new driving range getting started . This is the subsoil being put in to build up the height of tee. Another 400mm (USGA spec layers) will be added to this .

14/3/19. Digger levelling off subsoil .
7/3/19. Swailend 6th bunker at greenside on left. Edges are worn and in need of some attention so they need reshaped .

7/3/19. Clear defined edges are so important in keeping the courses in good condition , improving presentation.

February 2019

6/2/19. As you can see from the picture the snow has nearly all gone but the melt on frozen ground and another frost overnight has caused ice on the main greens .

6/2/19. Some snow remains on the bankings at the 9th hawkshill and also out at the far end of the course
19/2/19. Levelling raised drains on the 14th fairway on Hawkshill. This is to prevent the scalping of turf.

19/2/19. Areas around the edge of the 3rd green on Hawkshill  that had traffic wear were re turfed to improve visual appearance.

20/2/19. Area at the back of the 3rd green on Hawkshill (walk off area) was also re turfed.

21/2/19. New pins and flags were put out on the range target greens today, looking good.
18/2/19. Weather being so mild has allowed us to get a hand cut done on both courses (pedestrian mower).

18/2/19. Greens are looking good for February. We have some moss issues around bankings of greens which will be treated this week by applying lawn sand. This was caused by the very dry conditions last year which stressed the grass allowing the moss to take a hold .

20/2/19. Next challenge .This area left of the new Driving range will become a new Grass tee area. The aim is to build this area up in height  using USGA specifications so to Maintain its playability.
20/2/19. Deep spike on Hawkshill greens this week , always good for the rootzone , gets air into soil ,aids drainage ,increases deeper root development of grass which all adds up to healthier turf and better playing surfaces.
22/2/19. Hand rolling target greens on the range.

22/2/19. New pins and flags look very smart on the range.
25/2/19. Scarification of fairways started on Hawkshill . This is part of our maintenance program in order to reduce thatch levels ,improve drainage through the turf which leads to healthier grass .

22/2/19. All greens rolled and gravel bander lines getting tidied up.

January 2019

Happy New Year to all the Members from the Greenstaff.
4/1/19. Fallen trees behind 16th tee on Hawkshill . These have been cut up and area cleared up.
11/1/19. Re turf work beside 5th green on Hawkshill. This is the walk off area going to 6th tee.
11/1/19. Forest trees right of 14th green have been falling onto the course giving us a lot of extra work, on the plus side more wind and sunlight is what the course needs .
21/1/19. This is 11th green on Hawkshill . Frost under the surface causes any rain water to lay on the top surface . Main reason why the frost is prolonged in this area  is that there is a lack of sunlight and air getting through . So to solve this issue we need to clear some tree areas to get the right conditions.
21/1/19. Right hand side of 11th green Hawkshill is the first plantation to be thinned out.
25/1/19. Right of 12th box tee Hawkshill, this is the same plantation .
24/1/19. Already light is now finding a way through .
4/1/19. 3 Trees at the 9th hole on Hawkshill that have been dead for over a year had to be felled on safety grounds . From the bottom tee this has opened up the hole a fair bit .
14/1/19. All 15 target greens on the range now completed, they are going to be rolled every week until opening to firm them up.

30/1/19. Back of 11th green on Hawkshill getting thinned out.

31/1/19. Now working on the right of 14th tee on Hawkshill towards 13th green.
